The Seven Deadly Sins

The "Seven Deadly Sins" are a classification of vices that were originally used in early Christian teachings to educate and instruct followers concerning man's tendency to sin.

The goal of this project was to create a tabloid visually representing each of the seven deadly sins using a variety of different methods. The tabloid was then digitally printed at Newspaper Club on 55gsm paper. To see more of my process, click here.
The cover of the tabloid features an engraving titled Skeletons done by Agostino dei Musi in 1518. I chose this piece for the cover because I thought it did a great job of depicting death and the "fallen angel" at the center of it all, accurately capturing how man falls prey to these sins that are ultimately deadly.
I chose to show lust with a collage of multiple lips, cherries, and different parts of the body. My intention was to depict the sin of lust as a hunger and craving for the body. I wanted to emphasize that it is an excessive sexual desire where one sees people as mere objects for sex. To do so, I accentuated certain body parts of a woman and added the cherries on top to not only give a more appealing image, but to emphasize that lust is an appetite for sex.
Greed is the desire to have more. To have all the wealth, and to have, more specifically, money.
I chose to show greed in a very literal way by using an image of a person picking up money with a spoon as if they're about to eat it straight out of a bowl. This image shows, in an exaggerated way, just how much someone loves and craves money and their desire to have more of it.
Wrath is extreme anger or rage. The amount of rage it would take to beat an alarm clock to death until it shattered into pieces, for example. This is what I tried to depict in this image. By taking an everyday object such as an alarm clock and beating it to death, I was able to depict the intense amount of anger that can come out of someone from something so small and simple.
